Hi, I'm Melissa Carter and I love to be creative. Both in parenting and painting. My favorite media to play around with is watercolor and my favorite kids are from 6 different countries. They are Seora-22,Maggie-21, My son in law, Johnny - 20, Ben-19, Nathaniel-19, Edith- 17, Graham-15, Eli-9, Allenni-9, Andrew-11 and Isaiah-5.
I recently moved to Cottonwood, California with my wonderful husband, Duane from Florence, AL. All thirteen of us along with our two dogs make up the Multicultural Carters.
ABOUT MY ART:
I have been painting for about 9 years in watercolors. I love exploring with mixed media and experimenting on how to add texture to my paintings. In the last two years I have enjoyed doing portraits of children.
I have been a member of the Shoals Artist Guild and of the Tennessee Valley Art Center in Tuscumbia, AL.
I have studied art under several instructors and try to take art workshops whenever I can.
MY EXPERIENCE: Before I ever picked up a paint brush,
*I was an accomplished Sugar Artist(yes there is such a thing) for more than 15 years and owned my own specialty bakery and catering store for 3 years.
*I have taught cake decorating, candy making, and Stamp Art classes at our local Hobby Lobby.
*I have also taught art at a local Christian Home School group as well as held an art camp for young children.
* I have been accepted into several juried art shows and have won numerous ribbons for my art.
*I have participated in several art shows such as ARTS ALIVE and THE HELEN KELLER FESTIVAL with great success.
*My art graces the CD cover of "I Have Hope" by Brian Hill
* My art has been featured in the newspapers several times
*My art has sold at auctions for Adoption and Orphan Relief fundraisers such as Holt International and Love Without Borders
In my art, I want to portray the heart of God for the “least of these”. His nurturing heart carries GRIEF and COMPASSION but also carries HOPE, LOVE, LIFE, PROMISES and POSSIBILITIES that overpower the grief. With my art I want to bring awareness of the furious love that heals all hurts for these people whether they be orphans, prostitutes, abandoned, stolen or broken. I want to stir others to ask the question. “ What am I doing to BE the FURIOUS CARRIER of that HOPE, LOVE, LIFE, PROMISE AND POSSIBILITY to redirect someone else’s destiny?”
