My name is Melissa Carter and I love to paint. My favorite media is watercolor. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of my art benefits adoption and orphan relief.
I live in Florence,AL along with my husband Duane and 9 children, Ben, Seora, Nathaniel, Graham, Eli and Maggie, Allenni, Andrew and Isaiah. The last three are from Uganda, Ben and Nathaniel are adopted from Bulgaria and Seora and Maggie are adopted from Romania. Eli is adopted from China. Graham is our biological child.
I guess you could say adoption has become our ministry. We have seen miracles happen in our children's lives that are amazing. No longer do they live in a hopeless situation where their path would have ended in severe poverty or death. They have a family and have an abundance of opportunities at their disposal and can become anyone they want to be. Duane and I pray that they become movers in the Kingdom of God and change the world.
They have abundant life and you can see it in the sparkle of their eyes.
In 2002 Senator Sessions awarded us the Angels in Adoption award for our state and we were humbled that we were chosen. We still can't believe that God has used us in this manner. Never in our lives would we have thought it! But then doesn't God say, "My plans are not yours"?
About my art work: I have been painting for about 7 years in watercolors. I love adding mixed media to my paintings to provide texture and have enjoyed recently doing portraits.
I have been a member of the Shoals Artist Guild and am a member of the Tennessee Valley Art Center in Tuscumbia, AL. I have studied art under several instructors and try to take art workshops whenever I can.
Before I ever picked up a paint brush, I was an accomplished Sugar Artist(yes there is such a thing) for more than 15 years and owned my own specialty bakery and catering store for 3 years. I have taught cake decorating, candy making, and Stamp Art classes at our local Hobby Lobby. I have also taught art at a local Christian Home School group as well as held an art camp for young children.
I have been accepted into several juried art shows and have won numerous ribbons for my art. I have participated in several art shows such as ARTS ALIVE and THE HELEN KELLER FESTIVAL with great success.
I love watercolors AND am passionate about adoption! I want God to use my talents to help other children find homes and orphans to receive aid. So any thing you purchase will benefit those efforts through various venues.
